If when installing Adobe InDesign CS2, everything installs
successfully but when you launch InDesign CS2.app, it runs through its
initialisation sequences but hangs (forever!) when it gets to
"Initializing the SING gaiji system".
The Sing Gaiji system is involved in Asian characters and fonts. It allows for additional glyphs that aren’t primary to a font set.
If InDesign freezes at startup and what is displayed on the screen is; Initializing SING Gaiji system then follow the steps below to resolve the issue.
1) Delete the Sing Gaiji folder. If you don’t use any Asian fonts and want to resolve this quickly then this is the solution for you.HD/Library/Application Support/Adobe select the SING folder and delete it.
You will now be able to launch InDesign. I recommend this solution for a quick fix and suggest you further troubleshoot later when you have more time in case you find yourself using Asian fonts in the future.
2) Set proper permissions to the SING folder. Everyone will need Read/Write access in order to resolve this issue.
Navigate to the sing folder at HD/Library/Application Support/Adobe and select the SING folder.
get info (apple + I)
Expand the ownership and permissions section.
Make sure Read and Write access is given to; owner, group and others.
